FAQ

What is Psychotherapy?

When we use the word psychotherapy, we are referring to the process of working with a skilled therapist who uses evidence-base therapeutic interventions to help you explore, understand, manage and cope with difficult experiences, emotions and various life transitions.

Who can benefit from psychotherapy?

All of us experience periods in our lives where we can use some help. Psychotherapy can help you gain a fresh perspective in order to better navigate the difficulties you’re facing – this can happen while you receive the necessary support throughout the process.

This is my first time doing this. How does therapy work?

This is a sentiment that is shared by several of our clients when they first reach out. If you are feeling overwhelmed with life stressors, believe us, you are not alone!

Meeting with a therapist will allow you to work through your stressors and help develop healthier, realistic and effective strategies to reach your goals. This is done by several approaches to psychotherapy and some of the therapuetic models used are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-based therapies.

Psychotherapy is a collaborative approach between you and your therapist in exploration of ways on how to best reach your goals. As such, it is very important to connect with a therapist who you can relate to and feel comfortable speaking with. We suggest booking a free phone consult with (m)any of our skilled therapists to help you with this decision.

Once you meet with your therapist, you will likely complete a comprehensive initial assessment which will help identify some areas of growth as well as areas of strengths. Together along with your therapist, you will set realistic short and long term plans to help reach your wellness goals!

To summarize, getting you started with therapy is a 3 stepped approach:

1. Get to know our team

2. Book a phone consult/ or a direct appointment

3. Complete an initial assessment with your therapist and set wellness goals

We want your experience to be comfortable and seamless, so should you have any questions about picking the best therapist for you, please reach out to us at info@well-nest.ca or call/text us at 437-333-WELL(9355).

We will respond to you within less than 24 hours.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist?

Not at all! You do not need a referral to book an appointment. We welcome everyone who requires assistance in reaching their wellness goals.

What if my therapist is not a good fit?

We want your experience to be as comfortable and seamless, so please reach out to us and we are happy to pair you with another therapist.

We appreciate your feedback!

Are the fees covered by OHIP?

While psychotherapy and social work are regulated health professions in Ontario, they are unfortunately not covered under OHIP, OW or ODSP.

The majority of extended health benefits, however, do cover psychotherapy and social work services (typically in your health and dental insurance package from your employer). We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist to determine your eligibility and approved rates of coverage. We do not reimburse sessions if it turns out you do not have coverage.

What are the costs?

  • The cost for our services varies by both the needs of our clients and the therapist you choose.

  • Our services are HST-exempt. Additionally, psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Social Worker are recognized as an income tax deductible medical expense by Revenue Canada.

  • Presently, OHIP, OW or ODSP do not cover psychotherapy services, but fortunately many insurance plans do. We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider to determine whether (and for how much) counseling services provided by a Registered Social Worker are covered by your plan.

  • Every client is provided with a receipt with all of the information needed to facilitate reimbursement from your insurance health provider.

  • For prospective clients who do not have insurance coverage, on a limited basis, our therapists do offer a sliding scale at reduced rates. Please reach out to us if you want to learn more about which therapists currently have sliding scale spots available to schedule an assessment.

How can I pay?

We accept payment via credit card (including Visa debit). Our online client portal which allows you to book appointments can also process credit card payments automatically for your convenience. If there is a preferred payment method that is not listed please reach out and we can do our best to accommodate.

I don’t have extended health benefits. Do you have payment plans?

In order to best serve you, we have a number of therapists who specialize in different forms of therapy. As a result, our rates vary by therapist and types of sessions.

If finances are a concern we are happy to chat. A limited number of sliding scale (where a reduced rate is offered) appointments are available by request and need.

Can my therapy session be tax deductible?

As of 2012, Psychotherapy services provided by a Registered Social Worker are recognized as an income tax deductible medical expense by Revenue Canada.
